Savage ready to smash the amended Cycle Tour!

After an incredible Coronation Double Century and impressive Stellenbosch Cycle Tour, Team Pure Savage took a break over the Christmas period and started racing again early in February at the Pedal Power Association fun rides. The team did well in all of the events finishing regularly in the top 50 of the ride.
The Savage Pain Train
The team is ready to rock and roll the now amended Cycle tour of just 47km as they do each year. The boys seeding range from 1A to 1E and are ready for some serious hammering on the shorter course!
We took a little time out of hammering up Suikerbosie and in between deep panting breathes and gasps for air the boys had this to say about their preparation for the Cycle Tour. (We may have asked these questions before the race was cut to 47km)

Donovan “Cancellara” Le Cok (Savage in charge of dishing out the most pain)

Goal time for Cycle Tour: Sub 2:50 (2:52 for the last 2 years) So I want to get
make my goal.
Average number of rides a week: I train 7 days a week. Normally 2 Road rides, 2 MTB rides
and 3 sessions on an indoor trainer. The makeup varies greatly but it is always
7 days a week.
Major distractions from cycling
in the past 3 months:
It is always difficult
balancing family/work and cycling, so that is always something to consider, but
if you are determined enough to reach your goals you will make the time to
train. 4:30am wake ups and indoor training sessions at 10:00pm are not uncommon
for me. Strangely enough my biggest distraction from training has been the
amount of racing I have been doing lately. I have raced every weekend for the
last 8 weeks. Racing every weekend really limits the amount of time you can do
effective training during the week as your body is trying to recover, so that
is something I have been having to deal with lately.
Secret training: Cross country mountain bike racing… It differs from
normal mountain bike racing in that XC is short sharp laps with extreme climbs
and technical descents. Nothing matches XC racing in terms of  Maximum
intensity racing for an hour and a half!

Any other comments: The Cycle Tour has not been a major goal the last few
years. I have always had a big race close to the Cycle Tour that has taken
preference in terms of preparation and motivation. This year I would like to
have a proper go at it again. I am hoping with the help of Team Pure Savage we
can be right up there at the sharp end. I think that if I can go over
Suikerbossie with a few team mates at my side in the main bunch we can have a
go at sprinting for the sub vet podium at the finish.

Spot the team this weekend in the Pure Savage Mitchum kit! Great thanks again to our sponsors for this season Mitchum South Africa and Goodhope Oncology, they enabled us to look slick and smash so many races!
